Filling your plate with mostly fruits (and veggies and superfoods) can give your body the essentials it needs to crown you with an immune system that can fight and protect your body under sickness and stress. You can easily pick up every piece of produce in your local grocery store or farmer’s market and add them in as a part of your six small meals a day. Not only will you boost your metabolism but you will digest natural ingredients that keep your cells supple and smooth.

Put cherries on top of your health!

Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds such as beta-carotene and vitamin C, cherries naturally fight infections. Cherries are especially high in polyphenols, a large group of plant chemicals that help fight cellular damage, reduce inflammation, and promote overall health. Research shows that these chemicals can have a significant impact on immune system function and may reduce heart disease. Easy to add to your diet, just toss a few cherries in your yogurt for a delicious sweet and tart treat!

Pomegranates pack a powerful punch!

The disease-fighting strength of a pomegranate is said to be one of the healthiest fruits on earth. It’s a potent source of vitamins and antioxidants, anti-viral and anti-tumor properties. They also contain an excellent source of vitamins, especially vitamins A, C, and E. There’s folic acid as well, which has the ability to reduce inflammation, maintain a healthy immune system and keep common illness away. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds in your salad, yogurt, oatmeal, or eat them fresh! They’re usually in season in the early winter months, starting in January.

Go bananas for bananas!

Bananas are famously known to boost the immune system, help your nervous system, and help the body’s metabolism. They are full of minerals such as iron, magnesium, and potassium. These electrolytes help prevent the loss of calcium from your body. The carbohydrates and potassium in bananas are especially helpful for a post-workout recovery snack to replenish nutrients, prevent cramping and inflammation. A medium-sized one will give you a good chunk of the vitamin B6 you should get each day, it plays a vital role in brain development during pregnancy and infancy, as well as immune system health. An apple a day will keep the doctor away!

Rich in so many nutrients, apples can boost your immune system and keep you free from infections. In particular, a flavonoid called quercetin, which has been shown to significantly improve your immune system, might help reduce inflammation, kill cancer cells, control blood sugar, and help prevent heart disease. Additionally, the plant chemicals found in apples may reduce allergies, reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, lung cancers, and prostate cancer and protect your blood vessels against sometimes fatal heart attacks. It also eases constipation and diarrhea due to its high fiber content.  Red delicious apples contain the most powerful inflammation-fighting antioxidants. Blueberries contain flavonoids—a type of antioxidant that can help reduce damage to cells and improve your immune system. In addition, blueberries are rich in vitamin C and K. They also contain a good amount of vitamin A, potassium, dietary fiber, and manganese which makes blueberries a super disease-fighting fruit. Snack on a handful of blueberries on their own or add to an immunity-boosting smoothie!
