Ben & Jerry’s has always been a forerunner of doing things right. Let’s start with Fair Trade, where their farmers get a fair price for their natural harvests. One of the first companies to stand against their milk and cream being free of rBGH, a growth hormone given to cows to produce more milk. Their high standards for best from farms bounty gifted us with pronounceable, simple ingredients. This beloved brand has been a part of our dessert lives for what seems like forever.
And when social justice injustice reached yet another boiling point in the United States Ben & Jerry’s has done what they’ve always done, they pulled all the way up, declaring that silence is not an option. They outlined clear steps and made clear demands on the federal government on their corporate website. Before the latest lives were stolen, they had articles posted in support of the reparations bill, mass incarceration, and more.
What got us is when they rolled out PECAN RESIST, a purpose-driven flavor that supports four organizations working toward a more just and equitable future and peacefully resisting the current administration’s regressive and discriminatory policies.
The groups this flavor supports are working hard to defend, reimagine, and recreate a more inclusive society, focusing on racial and gender equity, climate change, LGBTQ rights, and refugee and immigrant rights.
Regardless, this company ain’t goin’ nowhere because Team Sugaberry and millions like us have been delighting in the unparalleled goodness of this brand for years. Pint by pint, we’ve taken moments to defend our pints from being eaten by others, before we knew how deeply the company is rooted in equality. They are the official ice cream “flava” unit in our world, so sit back and read why!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! I scream, you scream, I specifically scream COOKIE DOUGH ICE CREAM! I can finish this pint in a matter of a few hours. It is my favorite of all the deliciousness B+J’s has created. God really blessed them when they created this combo, because I be straight shoutin’ when I eat this one! Ok, gotta run and buy some now. Happy Ice Cream Day!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is, and will forever be, THAT girl. She does what the others wish they could. Talk about rebellion: we were told that eating raw cookie dough wasn’t good for us and here walks in the perfect specimen defying all rules. Nothing is more satisfying than your spoon hitting a chunk of dough within the frozen pint-sized wonderland. It reminds me of my mum’s kitchen. It reminds me of not needing permission to break the rules and under-baking cookies when I finally moved out on my own. And I remind everyone that a pint is a single serving…so get your own.
Mint Chocolate Cookie ismy sweet & cool escape. Something about its minty freshness makes me feel a little less guilty about this indulgence. Factor in those chocolate cookie chunks that provide a little extra crunch and this dessert lacks nothing! My toes twirl and my taste buds swirl around this perfectly balanced minty delight.
Half Baked Froyo is the truth. Not only do I get to indulge in its deliciousness, I get to enjoy a sweet treat without cheating on my diet! The chunks and swirls make my world go round. Nothing beats froyo on a hot summer day, especially when it’s filled with fudge chunks and cookie dough bites. If you want a cheat snack without the cheat, Half Baked Froyo can’t be beat!
I truly love Cherry Garcia because it reminds me of being a kid and going out for a sweet treat with my mom who loves cherry ice cream and my grandma who made cherry preserves. It’s pretty much my personal pint of nostalgia. I savor every spoonful whether I decide to have a little for breakfast or after dinner. Childhood memories are allowed any time of the day.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough – Duh! Since the tender age of 13, I have been a nearly addicted customer of Ben + Jerry’s. Their fun packaging always intrigued me, and their cookie dough chunks tasted like, real cookie dough. Not some manufactured dessert designed in a lab. I remember when I was 17 chillin’ out in the Hamptons, after an awesome dinner we headed to their Scoop Shop, and it was closed but when I discovered one years later closer to my house, I was a regular. They even have a non-dairy option that I just had with their chocolate cookie sundae, that was my personal celebration of back to going to the mall during a pandemic. Ben + Jerry’s we’re in this for life.
Although I don’t eat dairy, I’m an avid supporter of all of this because I love the energy Ben & Jerry’s brings to social justice and demanding change from government and corporate power structures. They are for the people, and I’m here for it.
